A man who became unresponsive after riding a roller coaster at Universal’s Epic Universe theme park died from “multiple blunt impact injuries,” according to authorities.
Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, 32, was found unresponsive after riding Stardust Racers on Wednesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. The Orange County Medical Examiner ruled his death an accident.
In a statement, Universal said it is cooperating with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in its investigation.
“We are devastated by this event and extend our sincerest sympathies to the guest’s loved ones,” a Universal spokesperson said in a statement. “We are fully committed to coopering with the ongoing investigation.”
Stardust Racers has been closed since the incident.
The coaster is one of four coasters at Epic Universe. Located in the park’s Celestial Park area, Stardust Racers is a dual launch coaster that reaches heights of 133 feet and speeds of 62 mph. It also features an inverted crisscross known as the “Celestial Spin.”
Epic Universe opened in May and is the first major theme park to debut in Florida in more than 25 years.
