The Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster at Universal Studios Florida will permanently close on August 18, Universal Orlando revealed Monday.

The coaster is closing to make way “for a new experience,” according to Universal.

Last year, Universal initially announced the coaster would close sometime in September, but it didn’t provide an exact date.

Rip Ride Rockit, designed by German coaster manufacturer Maurer Rides, opened in 2009. The coaster features on-board audio and allows riders to select which track they hear during the ride.

Universal hasn’t revealed what will be replacing Rip Ride Rockit but says details will be shared “at a later date.” Fans have begun speculating that it could be replaced with another coaster possibly themed to “Fast & Furious.”

Rip Ride Rockit is the latest long-running attraction at Universal Studios to get the axe following Poseidon’s Fury in 2023 and Shrek 4-D in 2022.
